Bowness and Windermere Images
Although I see my work and the building of this website more as a labour of love than a commercial enterprise, most of the images found on this site may be purchased as prints, framed pictures, greetings cards and digital files for either personal or editorial use. A commercial license may be granted for appropriate images, and permission to download free image files for website use will also be considered. Click the relevant tab at the top of each page for further details.
I always try to act responsibly and within the law, both when taking photos and granting permission for their use; some photos have even been included for interest only and are not for sale or distribution. However, just let me know if you see a photo of yourself or your property on this site that you would like me to remove.

Aerial view of Storrs Hall: Built in the 1790s by Sir John Legard, a Yorkshire landowner. In 1804 the house was sold to John Bolton from Ulverston who made his fortune as a liverpool slave trader. The house was turned into a first class hotel in the 1890s.

Aerial view of St. Martin's Church: Built in 1483, but greatly restored in 1870 by Paley and Austin, when the tower was heightened. The east window contains some fine medieval stained glass.

Belle Isle: This is  largest island on Windermere has been the site of a manor house since the early 13th century. During the Civil War this Royalist stronghold was besieged by Roundheads firing cannon at it from Cockshot Point. The present day roundhouse, designed by John Plaw, was built in 1774

St. Mary's Church: Built in 1848, the church suffered an arson attack in 1988 at the hands of a teenager who had been sleeping in the organ loft. The damage came to £400,000, but the church has been beautifully restored.

Queen Adelaide's Plaque: In 1840, Queen Adelaide who was the Dowager Queen of King William IV, landed here and climbed Rayrigg Bank. This was known to be one of the best viewpoints of the lake thanks to Thomas West’s 1778 ‘Guide to the Lakes’.

Windermere Ferry at Ferry Nab: The ‘Mallard’ was built in Wales in 1990. This diesel-powered craft takes ten minutes to drag itself across the lake on underwater cables.
